Caro Flood Defence Barrier WaterWall

Wide Openings. Unlimited Perimeter Protection.

Caro Flood Defence Barrier WaterWall has been developed for wide openings and unlimited perimeter protection using demountable posts at 1500mm intervals. It is suitable for residential, commercial, industrial and public sector applications where the aperture or perimeter to be protected exceeds 1500mm in width.

WaterWall is independently approved to BS 851188-1:2019+A1:2021, the British Standard for demountable flood barriers, and is approved for use on the Environment Agency's Property Flood Resilience (PFR) Framework. Like all Caro Flood Defence barrier systems, WaterWall is manufactured in-house at our production facility in Kent, made to order and quality assured to ISO 9001:2015.

Is WaterWall Right for Your Application?

WaterWall is suited to wide openings and unlimited perimeter lengths across residential, commercial, industrial and public sector sites. For openings up to 1500mm wide where no demountable posts are required, Caro Flood Defence Barrier WaterDoor may be the more appropriate choice. For wide apertures where demountable posts are not suitable, WaterTight covers openings up to 5m without posts.

How WaterWall Works

WaterWall panels slot into permanently fixed wall rails on each side of the opening, with demountable posts inserted into pre-installed ground inserts at 1500mm intervals across the span. When a flood warning is issued, posts are deployed into the ground inserts using the unique post locking system, and panels are then dropped into the rails and posts and secured using an Allen key.

The system can be deployed in minutes by one or two adults depending on the width of the installation.

The one-time installation of wall rails and ground inserts should be carried out by a professional installer. Caro works with a network of approved installers across the UK. Deployment of the panels and posts when a flood occurs is carried out by the property owner or occupant.

Key Features

  • Unlimited perimeter coverage. WaterWall spans any width using demountable posts at 1500mm intervals, making it suitable for commercial, industrial and large residential sites with wide or complex perimeter requirements.
  • BS 851188-1:2019+A1:2021 approved. WaterWall holds independent third-party approval to the British Standard for demountable flood barriers, certified by KIWA (Certificate KA-25-1001).
  • Environment Agency PFR Framework approved. WaterWall is approved for use on the Environment Agency's Property Flood Resilience Framework, providing the assurance required for public sector and local authority procurement.
  • Demountable post system. Posts are deployed into pre-installed ground inserts at intervals of up to 1500mm using the unique Caro post locking system. Post caps protect ground inserts when the barrier is not deployed and can be removed with a flat-head screwdriver.
  • Barrier heights from 200mm to 1200mm. Individual panels are 200mm or 300mm high and stacked to the required barrier height. Additional heights are available on request.
  • Made to order. Every system is manufactured to the exact dimensions of the opening or perimeter being protected. Contact the Caro team with your measurements to receive a quote.
  • UK manufactured. Manufactured in-house at our Kent production facility under ISO 9001:2015 quality management. Net Zero Carbon, Future Net Zero Platinum awarded.

Approval and Testing

Caro Flood Defence Barrier WaterWall holds full third-party approval to BS 851188-1:2019+A1:2021, the British Standard for demountable flood barriers, independently certified by KIWA (Certificate KA-25-1001). Approval covers static water loading, leakage performance, wave impact, dynamic impact and parallel current resistance. WaterWall is also approved for use on the Environment Agency's Property Flood Resilience (PFR) Framework. For full details of Caro's approval credentials and testing documentation, see our Approval and Testing page.

WaterWall Components

Wall Rails & Panel Sealing Screws

Permanently fixed wall rails are available in two forms: reveal fix (between the reveals/brickwork of the opening) or face fix (onto the face of the brickwork).

Each rail includes a recess for the Wall Rail Compression Block and a rubber seal on the inner side. Panel sealing screws protrude horizontally through the wall rails and demountable posts, securing the aluminium panels against the seals to prevent water ingress.

Panel Extrusion

Individual panels are 200mm or 300mm high x 20mm thick, supplied with rubber seals to prevent water ingress. All panels are cut to the required length as part of the made-to-order manufacturing process.

Demountable Post

Required for WaterWall barriers spanning in excess of 2000mm wide. The post deploys into an unobtrusive ground insert using the coarse thread connector.

Ground Insert & Post Cap

The 120mm diameter ground insert acts as a socket for WaterWall installations involving the requirement for a demountable post.

When the barrier is not deployed, a lockable post cap seal is used to protect the ground insert.

Wall Rail Compression Block

The compression block is inserted into a recess at the top of the fixed wall rails and is used to ensure adequate downward pressure is applied to each end of the barrier.

Professional Installation

WaterWall wall rails and ground inserts are fixed to the structure during a one-time installation. Although comprehensive instructions are provided with the Caro Flood Defence Barrier, this is best carried out by a professional installer. Caro works with a network of approved installers who can be contacted via the Caro team. Once wall rails and ground inserts are in place, deployment in response to a flood warning is carried out by the property owner or occupant.

WaterWall Page FAQ

What is the Caro Flood Defence Barrier WaterWall?

Caro Flood Defence Barrier WaterWall is a demountable flood barrier system designed for wide openings and unlimited perimeter protection. It uses demountable posts at 1500mm intervals to span any width and holds independent third-party approval to BS 851188-1:2019+A1:2021. The system is also approved for use on the Environment Agency's Property Flood Resilience Framework and is manufactured in-house in the UK by Caro Flood Defence.

How wide can WaterWall cover?

WaterWall can span unlimited widths using demountable posts deployed into pre-installed ground inserts at intervals of up to 1500mm. There is no maximum perimeter length. For openings up to 1500mm wide that do not require demountable posts, WaterDoor is the appropriate configuration.

Can barriers be configured in different shapes?

Additional Caro Flood Defence Barrier configurations are available, including systems with 90-degree demountable posts. Examples include U-shaped barriers, L-shaped barriers and fully enclosed barrier systems designed to protect structures, equipment compounds or restricted areas. Please contact us regarding bespoke applications and quotations.

Is WaterWall approved to BS 851188-1:2019+A1:2021?

Yes. Caro Flood Defence Barrier WaterWall holds full third-party approval to BS 851188-1:2019+A1:2021 and has been independently certified by KIWA (Certificate KA-25-1001).

Is WaterWall approved for the Environment Agency PFR Framework?

Yes. WaterWall is approved for use on the Environment Agency's Property Flood Resilience Framework. For procurement enquiries, please contact info@caro.co.uk.

How is WaterWall installed and deployed?

Installation is a one-time process in which permanent wall rails are fixed and ground inserts are installed at 1500mm intervals across the opening. This is typically carried out by a professional installer. When a flood warning is issued, the property owner or occupant deploys the system by inserting the posts into the ground inserts and locking them into position. The panels are then dropped into the rails and posts and secured using an Allen key. Depending on the width of the installation, deployment can be carried out by one or two adults.
